ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The My P.E. Kids Film & Media Academy is a youth development program presented by My P.E. Productions, a creative media company operating under Arena Intellectual Media LLC.

The academy introduces students to filmmaking, journalism, photography, digital storytelling, animation, creative writing, interviewing, public speaking, and media production through hands-on learning experiences.

Throughout the program, students will participate in classroom instruction, production exercises, interviews, creative assignments, and collaborative projects designed to strengthen communication skills, confidence, leadership, teamwork, and artistic expression.

I give permission for my child to participate in all scheduled activities associated with the My P.E. Kids Film & Media Academy. I understand that participation includes classroom instruction, production exercises, photography, filming, interview.

I understand that the My P.E. Kids Film & Media Academy is hosted in partnership with the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center. I grant permission for My P.E. Productions, a division of Arena Intellectual Media LLC, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center to use photographs, video recordings, audio recordings, and student-produced media captured during academy activities for educational, promotional, historical, community outreach, program reporting, grant applications, websites, social media, newsletters, presentations, and other non-commercial purposes related to their missions.

The My P.E. Kids Film & Media Academy is presented by My P.E. Productions, a division of Arena Intellectual Media LLC, in partnership with the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center and Good Steward Foundation.

I understand that photographs, video recordings, interviews, and student projects created during the academy may be shared with the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center for the purpose of highlighting youth achievements, promoting community programming, documenting academy activities, and supporting educational and community initiatives.

I understand that all student media will be used in a respectful and professional manner consistent with the educational mission of both organizations.

Photography & Media Release

I understand that photography, video recordings, and audio recordings will be captured throughout the academy. I grant permission for My P.E. Productions, operating under Arena Intellectual Media LLC, to use photographs, video footage, audio recordings, interviews, student projects, and other media featuring my child for educational, promotional, documentary, marketing, fundraising, grant applications, websites, social media, printed publications, presentations, and future academy materials.

STUDENT PRODUCTIONS

I understand that my child may participate in student-produced films, documentaries, news reports, interviews, animated projects, photography exhibitions, promotional videos, commercials, and the Black in 828 community storytelling initiative. These projects are educational in nature and are designed to help students build confidence while developing a professional portfolio.

WHAT IS MY P.E. KIDS FILM & MEDIA ACADEMY?

My P.E. Kids is a hands-on film and media program where young people learn by creating. Students are introduced to the basics of camera operation, filmmaking, acting, storytelling, interviewing, reporting, photography, audio and production.

Students have opportunities to work in front of the camera and behind the scenes, depending on their interests, experience level and the needs of each project. Beginners are welcome!

Projects & Opportunities

👻 October Scary Short — CURRENT PROJECT — Students will help create an age-appropriate suspense/scary short film. Depending on their level and interests, they may work in front of the camera as actors or behind the scenes with camera, audio, directing and production.
🎬 Create a Film in a Day / Create a Film in 2 Days — Students experience the excitement of taking an idea from concept to camera in a short amount of time. They learn how a production team works together to write, act, direct, operate cameras, capture sound and complete an original short film.
🖤 Black in 828 — Students help document stories that deserve to be preserved. Black in 828: Businesshighlights Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs, while Black in 828: Legacy helps preserve interviews and stories from elders, underserved voices and community legends.
🏀 My P.E. Sports — Students gain experience covering sporting events through photography, videography, player interviews, highlights and sports reporting. We have partnered with The Good Steward Foundation to help expand opportunities through our sports branch.
🔎 Who Done It? — An interactive filmmaking mystery where students use scripts, characters, camera angles, acting and reporting to investigate a fictional mystery. Students film clues, interrogations, witness statements and news reports while learning how a story comes together on camera.
🎤 Reporting Around the 828 — Students become young reporters and media creators covering events and stories throughout our community. They practice interviewing, on-camera reporting, photography, videography, B-roll and storytelling.

Students don't have to come in knowing exactly what they want to do. They can explore:

As students learn and grow, they may receive additional opportunities based on their interests, participation, skill level and readiness.

Important for Parents

Registration expresses interest in My P.E. Kids Film & Media Academy and upcoming opportunities. Not every student will participate in every project. Certain productions may require auditions, additional permission, local travel, or separate filming dates. Parents/guardians will receive details before their child participates.

CURRENT OPPORTUNITY: OCTOBER SCARY SHORT

Interested students should indicate on the application whether they would like to be considered for the October production.

Please Note: Students may choose to portray their character as serious, humorous, innocent, suspicious, mysterious or even scary (October project). These performances are part of the storytelling process and do not reflect the student's actual personality or character.

Participation & Code of Conduct

I understand that the academy operates like a real production team. Students depend on one another to complete projects, making regular attendance and timely homework submissions important to the success of the class. I agree to encourage my child to complete assignments, practice scripts, and communicate with instructors if an absence becomes necessary.

I understand that students are expected to demonstrate respect toward instructors, volunteers, guest speakers, business partners, and fellow participants. Students are expected to use academy equipment responsibly, follow safety instructions, contribute positively to group projects, and represent My P.E. Kids with professionalism during academy activities and community events.

Failure to meet these expectations may result in disciplinary action or dismissal from the program if necessary to maintain a safe and productive learning environment.

I understand that reasonable precautions will be taken to provide a safe learning environment. I voluntarily allow my child to participate in the My P.E. Kids Film & Media Academy and acknowledge that participation in educational and production activities carries ordinary risks associated with youth programs.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, I release My P.E. Productions, Arena Intellectual Media LLC, My P.E. Kids Film & Media Academy, its instructors, volunteers, partners, sponsors, and host facilities from liability for ordinary risks associated with participation, except where caused by gross negligence or willful misconduct.
